Sorting out all the information around rebates for green renovations and building new can be difficult. Here are two sites that have put a lot of work into sorting it out for you.

www.climatechangecentral.com - Information on loads of rebates for everything from low flow fixtures, to new apliances to getting a Home Energy Evaluation done, Climate Change Central is the place to find up to date information on current Rebate programs.

Several of our team members at Green Alberta and EcoAmmo have spent years volunteering with MADE. The experience of volunteering for MADE has proved to be instrumental in all of our lives. Brandy remains on the board today!

The Committee acts as a hub for networking and learning events, fosters leadership opportunities and supports initiatives of interest to the Next Generation. These events are totally fun! This group of young passionate green peeps have put together some very fun and very informative tv made for web shows. Check them out!

It represents a coalition of public and private building industry leaders, who promote buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, economically viable and healthy places to live and work in. This organization holds various dinner and green building tour events throughout the year. They also offer education courses to learn more about LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Along with a small group of passionate design professionals our very own Stephani Carter helped to start this chapter and is proud to remain on the board today.

Andrea Jones is a passionate green home owner herself and has blogged about her own green kitchen reno. She has just recently started to sell some unique green products you can't find anywhere else in Edmonton.

CBC Living Green in Edmonton - CBC started creating and collecting stories about living green in Edmonton and Canada. They have short tv and radio stories, and blogs and links to help you live green in Edmonton!

Founder and Owner Michael Kalmanovitch started the store "to offer people information and products to help them lessen their impact on the environment and society". Everything Michael carries in the store has been scrutinized for it's impact on people and the planet. We love this store and frequent it often for the copious books on green to the refill on toothbrush heads, or laundry detergent in our reusable containers to unique finds like paper scribblers made out of recycled records and album covers. They also have a selection of videos you can rent to inspire you and your family!

planet organic.jpgwww.planetorganic.ca - Planet Organic - Local Organic Grocery Store with two locations in Edmonton; Whyte Avenue and Jasper Avenue. It's great to be able to go into a grocery store and feel confident that everything was selected with the environment and your own health in mind. However, don't forget that all the major chains now have sections of their stores with organic foods too. It's easy being green these days.


 

Clothes Shopping

Hands down the best way to shop for new clothes is consignment. It is truly guilt free shopping. The clothes are saved from going to the landfill and you sleep soundly because your voting dollars are re-invested back into our local community. Neat!

Don't forget this is not a linear shopping experience, it is cyclical, come in to buy something new and drop off something old, overall you could break even!

Its exterior may look a bit funk and retro, but the items they carry are similar to what you would find at any shopping mall, only for about half the retail price.

reusecenter.pngREUSE CENTER - City of Edmonton Re-use centre - Teachers, daycare workers, crafters and non-profit organizers can now pick up items from the new permanent Reuse Centre.   Organized along the lines of the successful Reuse Fairs, the new venue collects everyday items five days a week, year round, and make them available to groups and individuals who will reuse them. Material will be accepted at no cost from residents and will be available to anyone for a minimal fee.
